Get Connected Every year in January, Asian Business Association’s (ABA) Board of Directors and Advisory Council dedicate their personal time to assist ABA with our strategic planning. This year was no exception. On the weekend of January 20, the meeting participants not only included the Board Directors, but also included representatives from MWD, IBM, Citibank, AT&T, Hilton Hotels, PG&E, Wachovia, Sempra, Southern California Edison, and Union Bank of California.
The five goals established for the association for the next 1-3 years are: 1) Achieve sustained financial stability; 2) Increase membership; 3) Succession plan for board and staff; 4) Provide the best & comprehensive business development and support programs for the Asian community; and 5) Determine the best way to collaborate with other organizations to leverage collective strengths.
If you’ve always wanted to be involved with ABA, here is your opportunity. Our goals require your participation. It may be as little as a few hours in month or as much time as you can dedicate to the association. Please contact me directly at dennis@aba-la.org to get involved. This can be one of the ways you can get connected. I look forward in working with you.
February Mixer We had a successful and productive February 28th mixer at the Pacific Grille in Los Angeles. Thanks to Toyota and Pacific Grille for sponsoring the event. Aaron Emi (Toyota Supplier Development Administrator) shared information on how to access and do business with Toyota. Jo Javier (of Carter & Smith and ABA Board Director) lifted everyone’s spirit and explained what ABA does in the community and the membership benefits. That evening we increased our membership by nine.
Golf Tournament We want to thank our Golf Chairs, Linda Young, Stephen Lee, Michael Komai and Jo Javier for their dedication to the 9th Annual Golf Tournament which was held on March 26th at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach. Special acknowledgement goes to Linda for her dedication and energy to making our event fun and successful.
Los Angeles Vendor Fair Thanks to our friends at Metro, ABA had a booth at the LA Vendor Fair on April 11th at the L.A. Convention Center. It was a great opportunity for many of our members to have face to face dialogue with procurement officers of the many public agencies such as MWD, LAUSD, Metro, City of LA and County of Los Angeles. We helped bridge the gap between many members and the agencies.
April Mixer David Lee shared a remarkable story on his road to success and gave a new meaning to the phase what does success “look” like. The event was held on April 26th at the Hing Wa Lee store in Walnut.
