Executive Director’s Report Dennis J. Huang
ED Report Spring 2006
2/1/2006
2005 Holiday Party
As we ended 2005, we honored board director and past president, Johnathan Hou, for his years of service and commitment to our organization at our holiday party. We will also miss Bill Brown of IBM who served actively on ABA’s advisory council. We want to thank Arnold Ng for the introduction to Children’s Institute, Inc. which allowed us to help with their toy drive for deserving children. They serve children who have been affected by violence in the homes and community throughout L.A. County. Charlie Woo of Mega Toys and many of our members jointly donated over 500 toys to these children.

On that same night, we also swore in our 2006 board of directors. Two new board members are Michael Komai, publisher of the Rafu Shimpo, and Linda Stone, president of APR Consulting. We are very fortunate to have such talented addition to our board. Please help me welcome them.

Strategic Planning Retreat
ABA began 2006 with a retreat for the board directors and the advisory council. It was held at Pechanga Resort and Casino. Many concluded that we need to grow membership and have our members participate more with our association. Please help grow our organization. We need you to be more involved. The following are a list of committees and their respective contacts. Advocacy – Gordon Eng, geng@bwclaw.com & Lisa Sueki, ltsueki@earthlink.net; Membership – Arnold Ng, ang@remaxpv.com & Linda Young, tailoredbaskets@excite.com; Programs – Neil Santo Tomas, neil@santotomas.net; Publicity & Marketing – Linda Stone, linda@aprconsulting.com. You will have the opportunity to network and build your contact list and make life fun. More info and current events can be found at our website, www.aba-la.org.

Golf Tournament
The purpose of our golf tournament is to raise funds for our ongoing scholarship, educational and business training programs. This year, part of the proceeds will support LA’s Best, an after school enrichment program for elementary school children ages 5 to 12 in the City of Los Angeles. Like LA’s Best, we believe we need to be responsible for the place we work and live in. For more information on LA’s Best, please visit www.lasbest.org.

For the benefit of the association and a good cause, golfers still can enjoy a day of fun, great conversation, relaxation and competition. We are playing a modified scramble format this year. Good golfers can continue to strive for first, second or third place. While the rest of us can depend on the Callaway handicap system, so any team can win. We will have some great raffle prizes and gift bags. Please sign up early to ensure your spot. Sponsors will have priority!
